First off I'd like to start off with a little explanation of everything that's happened within the past 8 months with the server. In August I left for college and about a month in I realized that with my courseload I didn't have nearly as much time for Minecraft along with many other things I didn't have to worry about prior. So in September I allowed Muckdog, a longtime player and old friend to come and help me manage the server and basically to run the server in my absense. What could have possibly gone wrong? He thought it was a good idea to bring all of his friends and to allow random players to collaborate to help reset the server and try to create what they thought the server should be like. The map reset which I let them do along was not only a disaster, but they essentially got rid of a lot of the hard work I had put into the server and were making major changes and decisions in my absense and behind my back which by the time my workload was easing and soon before finals I realized everything was going to shit. I in turn attempted to hire someone named Preston who reached out and offered his help, but ended up doing nothing useful at all and was just trying to take my money so I fired him along with his developer who was incompetent and completing nothing. I then fired Muckdog because of his refusal to listen and as soon as I told him he was done, he decided to attempt to delete all the files which he didn't and most plugins were saved but I lost about half of the configurations along with world files and everything. The server was whitelisted for one month and the first date I was back for Christmas break I got to work to assess the damage and start rebuilding everything from the bottom.
As soon as I was back home and able to start work, I began getting everything setup along with commissioning new builders and getting as much as fast and efficiently as I could. This map reset turned out to be one of the best we have ever seen, with the server reaching over 60 players without any advertisements on the third day of being released. About two weeks after I released the server, I had to go back to school and I knew that meant my lack of activity and time was inevitable with a much harder course load than prior. My first instinct was to grow the staff team and hire a new manager that I thought could get the job done. DedicatedRam came along and offered himself and at first was helping a bit, but after a short few weeks he brought his friend Kaveen alongside and soon after everything went back into the dumps. They installed multiple poisoned plugins which I wasn't aware of, allowing them to type hidden commands that would give them OP allowing them and all their friends to login and do whatever they please. After a few mess ups, I decided their time was up and to remove them and I removed all of their access to anything before demoting them not realizing they had installed poisoned plugins. Right after, they griefed the server and when I found the source of the issue I tried by removing the first few things I found that didn't look familiar however I was unable to remove everything since they were hidden in the backups I was uploading and within other plugins disguised as ones we use. After a few days I finally just redid the entire plugin list, updating every single plugin and removing every plugin we didn't need along with a bit of Nxthan's help as his introduction as our new manager. I chose him by recommendation of a friend who vouched for his work.
This brings us to the most current events of the server. Nathan's help at first seemed promising but a map reset was required and I didn't have the time to do a full server reset because of personal things that required my attendance. I allowed Nathan to blindly do the most recent map reset along with the help of the other staff based on his word that he would uphold to my expectations. The map reset was overall a disaster with Nathan installing things that were outdated allowing multiple old exploits that I had patched prior. I attempted to talk to Nathan multiple times and tried to work with him and provided him every single resource and bit of help he could have needed however he refused to put forth any effort and time into the server. He was friendly and played it off that he was going to improve however after 3 weeks of his lies and lack of dedication on top of asking for more payment than he deserved, I fired him. Now the server lies in a crumbled state that I know isn't going to last.
Resulting from everything that has happened, I have decided to not hire another manager because I don't see any point in wasting money or resources on having someone else attempt to turn the server around. Ultimately, I have decided to turn this map into a beta version of what I would like to fully release this summer. Basically this means that we're going to reset the server again at the beginning of the summer right when I'm back from college and reset everything including MCMMO, economy, and the map. I personally didn't want to have to resort to this and I considered other options, however they're not really possible with the little amount of time that I actually have available that I can allocate towards working on the server and I'm not risking another manager screwing up.
If you've made it this far into the post, you're probably wondering what BETA means for the server?
- BUG BOUNTIES - If you find any issues while online, report them on the forums! Each bug you find will have a different reward depending on its severity. Rewards will range from in-game perks after the map reset to Buycraft coupons that you can purchase whatever you'd like with
- MAP RESET - Everything is going to be reset at the beginning of the summer
- In-game Changes - There will be many new features and changes when we re-release
- DONOR RESET - If you purchased anything within the past month you'll be fully reimbursed when the map resets and if you purchase anything leading up to the map reset you'll receive it when the map resets.
- Server will be fully functional until I get back from school, in which case I will whitelist it the day I am back and begin working (This date will be during the first week of May)
So as far as everything that's happened in the past, we're going to call it Surrealcraft v1.0 and we're currently in the BETA version of 2.0. Once we re-release, it will be called 2.0 and we will continue from there. If you have ANY suggestions or think that we can improve on something, please let us know!
Currently I don't have a job because of school, however I'll be taking this as seriously as I would a full time job.
I'd like to see our server surpass 100 players daily, and we'll be advertising heavily as soon as we release.
Stay tuned for an official date of the server's release...
